Hello, world! I’m Richard Harper, but most people know me as Rich. I’ve been in the tobacco industry for over three decades now and the journey has been nothing short of fascinating.
My journey started at Imperial Brands PLC, where I was part of the production team. My time there offered me the opportunity to learn the ropes and gain hands-on experience on the production floor, directly interacting with the various elements of tobacco production.
After spending a good portion of my career at Imperial Brands, I took my expertise to Altria Group, Inc., where I worked as a Tobacco Specialist for the North American region. This role allowed me to travel extensively and gave me the unique opportunity to understand the differences in tobacco farming and production practices across different regions.
In 2020, I was honored with the ‘Tobacco Industry Excellence Award’ for my dedication and commitment to the industry. This accolade meant a lot to me, considering the caliber of industry experts who had previously received this award.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the pleasure of developing innovative tobacco blends and quality control methods that have significantly improved the overall quality of tobacco products in the market.
Currently, I’m based out of London, UK, but I maintain a global perspective through my work and travels.
On a personal note, I’m a keen gardener and often spend my weekends tending to my vegetable patch. I find that it brings a certain balance to my life, counteracting the hustle and bustle of my professional life. Besides gardening, I’m a history buff with a special interest in the World War II era. I find it fascinating to understand the global political climate during that time and how it shaped the world we live in today.
